Are you missing out on benefits?
A large number of people in Arun are missing out on financial help because
they are not claiming their entitlement to Housing and Council Tax Benefit.
Anyone who is not claiming but believes they could get benefit can use an
online benefit calculator to get a rough guide to whether they may be eligible.
A benefit calculator and information on how to make a claim can be found under ‘b’ of
the A-Z of services.
Alternatively customers can call on 01903 737753 to discuss their possible
entitlement.
New service makes it even easier to register to vote
Annual canvass forms will go to every household in Arun this month - but this
year the Electoral Services Unit at the Council has introduced phone and
internet registration as well.
The new system means that voters with no changes to their household details
will not have to return the form and, can now call a Freephone number or go
online to register. The process will be much smoother and will make it much
easier for the elector.
Around 10% of the eligible residents in Arun were not registered and therefore
unable to vote in the UK Parliamentary election held in May.
New residents or electors with changes to their details will need to return the
form via Freepost in the usual way.

Residents urged to keep recycling clean and green
Arun residents are being asked to brush up on their recycling habits after
rotting food and other items ruined a spate of collections.
In the last few weeks, Arun District Council has been forced to put a large
amount of recycling in landfill due to an increase in contamination.
This is a result of people placing the wrong items in their recycling bins, in
particular food waste including leftovers from barbecues, but also nappies,
plastic bags, and even a hosepipe and a shower unit.
To ensure that recycling bins can be collected, everything inside must be
clean and should be on the list of acceptable items which encompasses: glass
bottles and jars, aluminium containers and foil, empty aerosol cans, paper
food and drink cartons, paper, card and telephone directories, plastic bottles
and cans and tins.
