Policing in Ferring

Ferring is a peaceful community, with a low crime rate. The Parish Council works closely with Sussex Police and Neighbourhood Watch to prevent crime and anti-social behaviour, to get all incidents reported and to help the Police deal with them effectively.

Our Policing Team

Our local Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) is Caroline Wilson. You will see her out and about in our streets and shopping parades, at the WI Market, and holding 'surgeries' in the Library on the first Friday of every month between 10.00am and 12.00 noon. Caroline is a member of the Neighbourhood Specialist Team which works with the eastern parishes of Arun District.

There are two other PCSOs in this area; the dedicated Police Constable is Dave Banham-Brown, and the Sergeant is  TBA. The team, which also includes six Special Constables, works out of Littlehampton Police Station and Caroline is based at the Ferring Police Office opposite Barry Rumsey's Newsagents in the village centre. Ferring is also covered by quick response officers controlled by the 999 service and CID and other resources based in Littlehampton and other centres.

Contacting Sussex Police

If a crime is in progress, or in any case where life or limb is in danger, phone 999. For other urgent matters please call 0845 60 70 999.

For less urgent matters please contact the Neighbourhood Specialist Team. You can email Caroline.Wilson@sussex.pnn.police.uk or leave a voicemail for her by dialling 0845 60 70 999 and when requested, entering her extension which is 21888. Caroline will pick up your message on her next working day. You can call in at the Police Office, which is open most mornings between 9.00am and 12.00 noon or you can advise the police of incidents by completing a Police Incident Form and dropping it into the Police Office at any time. You can view and then print this form - click here.

If you would like to find out more details of the officers for our neighbourhood, along with how to contact them, there's now a whole new way to get in touch. Go to www.sussex.police.uk and type in your postcode and you will find the names and photographs of all your local neighbourhood officers. Click on their pictures and you'll see their personal profiles and contact details. You can contact them either by sending an email or by leaving them a voicemail message, simply by phoning the 0845 60 70 999 number and using the individual extension number provided.

In addition to the photographs and contact details, the pages also contain a monthly What's happening in your area? community update, regular news flashes for the district, details of upcoming street briefings, up-to-date information about how local police are doing and details about your nearest police station.

Volunteers at the Ferring Police Office

If Caroline or other officers are not in the Police Office you may be able to speak to one of six volunteers, all Ferring residents, who are working with the team. They have been trained by the police in taking details of non-urgent incidents and in helping the team follow up on information received. They will show you an identity document explaining their status.

Crime Prevention

Caroline has a lot of Crime Prevention Information available at the Police Office, and she would be happy to talk to you, or put you in contact with the dedicated Crime Prevention Officers.  She is also keen to come and talk to any local organisation that feels its members would benefit.
