What is a Local Strategic Partnership?

Local Strategic Partnerships were introduced in 2000 to meet the need for joined-up working between all sectors across an area.  It brings together local representatives from public, private and voluntary sectors into a single strategic partnership to develop and deliver a shared longterm vision for that area.  For a quick Induction to LSPs and Arun LSP in particular, follow this link.

Where did LSPs come from, and why do they exist?

The Labour Government initially introduced LSPs in tandem with Neighbourhood Renewal Funding into the 82 most deprived areas in England to ensure that consensus was reached for a shared, multi-sector vision and co-ordinated service delivery resulted.  At that time, many agencies were delivering services in isolation rather than in partnership, leading to gaps and duplication of provision.

The most recent statutory guidance from July 2008 "Creating strong and prosperous communities" clarifies the roles and accountabilities for LSPs, including ensuring a sustainable community strategy is produced.  Additionally, there is a statutory "duty to co-operate" in local partnership working for most public agencies.

Arun Local Strategic Partnership (follow the links for more detail)

Arun LSP exists to improve the quality of life for people in the District.  The LSP partners have come together to define a 20 year vision and action programme for Arun called "Our Kind of Place", the sustainable community strategy for the Arun district.

There is an LSP Steering Group which meets quarterly.  There are thematic and geographical Delivery Partnerships which manage operational delivery, and the wider LSP of 300 local organisations which meets once a year at the LSP Conference
