Littlehampton Long Bench slats now available to buy online
It is now easier for visitors to Littlehampton to make their mark on Britain’s longest bench.
Reclaimed hardwood slats which make up the 324-metre long seafront attraction can now be bought through the Council's website via the following link The Long Bench
The slats can be inscribed with a personal message of up to 68 characters for £60. If one is purchased for a birthday, anniversary or even Valentine’s Day then a certificate is also available.
Up until now, those wishing to buy a slat could only email or telephone the Council to do so.
Littlehampton’s Long Bench is made from more than 9,000 colourful slats which weave and loop between two incredible steel shelters. Sitting among these are more than 400 personally engraved messages from the public.
Arun’s Cabinet Member for Economic and Cultural Development Councillor Norman Dingemans, who is also in charge of tourism, said: “The slats capture a snap shot of all aspects of human life, from marriage proposals to anniversaries, births and messages of remembrance. Requests for new engravings are always coming in so I’m pleased that it’s now easier for residents and visitors to become part of this iconic local landmark.”
Littlehampton’s Long Bench has been featured as an example of design excellence both nationally and internationally since it was completed in July 2010. More recently, it has been short listed for a 2012 Civic Trust award.
