Tourism plays a key role in Arun's economy and the council's role is to support and develop the visitor offer.  Part of this role is to assist holiday accommodation providers to seek accommodation grading awards which provides an incentive for them to improve their standards.  Grading is mandatory for establishments wanting to market their properties via the annual Sussex by the Sea Visitor Guide, the tourism website www.sussexbythesea.com and Visitor Information Centres.

The Quality Grading Scheme for accommodation has recently been unified into a single scheme by Visit Britain and it is now only awarded through the AA and Quality in Tourism.  It has been the impetus for quality improvement and Arun provides guidance, assistance and support to accommodation providers.  Information sheets and grading application details are available to all potential accommodation providers.   Tourism staff are available for pre-arranged visits to new and existing visitor accommodation, offer advice and guidance on ratings, and other business opportunities. This service is offered free of charge.
