Local Plan 2003
The Arun District Local Plan 2003 was adopted on the 17th April, 2003 and covers the period up to 2011. It forms a statement of Arun District Council’s planning policies, which will be used as a basis for decision making in planning applications. It consists of a written statement, and Proposals Map which itself includes several smaller ’Inset Maps’. To view the Arun District Local Plan 2003, please follow the link: Local Plan
The key aim of the plan is to apply the principles of sustainable development in assessing development proposals, striking the balance between the need for development and the protection of scarce resources. Policies and proposals within the plan seek to guide development to meet needs, such as economic regeneration and housing, and ensure the provision of appropriate infrastructure, whilst protecting precious resources such as the countryside, open spaces and sites important for nature conservation.
The Local Plan is divided into four sections:
Section 1 - General Policies
This sets out the Council’s objectives and the general policies with which the Council would expect development proposals for any sites anywhere within the District to comply. These policies underlie all other policies in the Plan.
Section 2 - Area Policies
Sets out policies for specific areas and locations and will apply to development proposals within these areas. (The areas are indicated on the Proposals Map)
Section 3 - Specific Development
Sets out policies applicable to specific types or forms of development, with which the Council would expect any proposals which include one or more specified types/form of development to comply.
Section 4 - Land Allocations
Sets out the Council’s site specific proposals and allocations for various sites within the District and the policies with which it would expect development on those sites to conform.
The Local Plan can be purchased at a cost of £35 plus £5 postage and packing, alternatively a CD version is available, costing £15 plus £1 postage and packing.
