Waste and recycling collection in Arun is to be managed by a new company following the acquisition of current contract-holders Verdant.
Greenstar UK, one of the leading recycling-led waste management companies in the country, will now handle all of Arun's waste after taking control of Verdant Plc.
The national company, which operates 38 facilities throughout the UK and is now expected to manage over 270,000 tons of material each year, will take over the contract the Council signed with Verdant until 2012.
This will put them in control of all Arun's refuse, recycling collection and other associated services.
Representatives from the Council, including Cabinet Member Cllr Paul Wotherspoon, will be meeting with counterparts from Greenstar UK in the next two weeks to discuss arrangements and aspirations for the new partnership.
Verdant owners Jon and Simon Miles will also remain with the company following the acquisition to help secure the continued successful growth of the combined organisation.
Councillor Paul Wotherspoon, Cabinet Member for the Environment, has moved to reassure residents that there will be no disruption to the current service as a result of the change.
"It will be business as usual," he said. "Nothing will change in the foreseeable future in terms of collection or disposal as a result of the new management, so residents need not worry about any interruption to their current service.
He added: "We are looking forward to meeting the new team and enjoying the same successful relationship with Greenstar UK.
"The current Verdant management will remain in place throughout the transition period which should ensure a smooth exchange and retention of the excellent standards in waste management currently being delivered.
"We have assurances from all parties that the good work and improvement in performance will not only continue but will push further forward under the new management. The Council is keen to hear Greenstar UK's plans for Arun, and anticipates forming a strong and successful partnership with them."
Ian Wakelin, Managing Director of Greenstar UK, said: "We are delighted to be working with Arun and look forward to improving strong partnerships already established. We hope to offer even better capabilities and move forward together with Arun in the long term."
