Pre-recorded music licence
Do I still need a licence to play background pre-recorded music in my bar/business?
There is an exemption in the Licensing Act for background music. Please contact the licensing team on 01903 737755 for advice if think you may be exempt.
Yes the licensing act 2003 licences do not cover the premission to use copyright music in public under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. A PRS licence represents the the permission from every writer or composer whose music you intend to play (Performing Right Society Licence) as is required by law.
