What are Business Rates used for?

They are used to reduce your council tax. 

Do my business rates pay for the collection of my business rubbish?

No. Unlike domestic rubbish collection which is included in your council tax payments, businesses have to make arrangements for the disposal of their business rubbish and pay for this separately.

My business is empty - do I still have to pay?

If your rateable value is £2599 or below there is no charge.

Empty retail and office properties get a three month relief period before they have to pay full business rates. Empty industrial and warehouse properties have a six month relief period before they pay the full charge.
