Arun Community Infrastructure Levy charging schedule comes into force on 1 April 2020

CIL Logo Following a decision of the Full Council on 15 January 2020 it was agreed the Arun CIL Charging Schedule would come into effect on 1 April 2020. Arun District Council has been working towards this since 2018.

The CIL is a planning charge which can be used as a tool for local authorities to help deliver the infrastructure needed to support the development in their area. This may include greenspace, leisure facilities, highways and transport, education and emergency services. A significant proportion of CIL income is also passed to town and parish councils to spend on infrastructure to support development in their local area.

CIL is charged on a pound (£) per square metre of new floorspace and it varies depending on where the development is taking place in the district, and what type of development has permission.

From 1 April, CIL is to be paid by anyone who has obtained planning permission (on or after 1 April 2020) to build over 100m² in additional floorspace, or one or more new house(s). The full schedule of rates is set out in the Arun CIL Charging Schedule January 2020, available on the Arun website: www.arun.gov.uk/cil
