Limber up to have your say on new Littlehampton Leisure Centre plans!

leisure centre At a meeting of Arun District Council’s Cabinet on 17 July 2017 the green light was given to start construction of the new leisure centre in Littlehampton, to ensure the project stays on track to open to the public by April 2019.

The new leisure centre will be larger than the existing facility and built to accommodate the growing population of Arun. The design makes the most of its location in Mewsbrook Park and the sea views.

Preparation works have already started on site with the sports dome being demolished to make way for the new state of the art facility. The main construction contract will be awarded to Willmott Dixon Construction Ltd following the market testing of 40 individual packages of work. The Council is now entering a period of negotiation on the final contract sum to ensure value for money.

The final contract sum will be presented to full Council in September 2017 after the negotiations have been completed.

Councillor Mrs Gillian Brown, Leader of the Council, stated: “This is a fantastic project for Arun which demonstrates our commitment to providing high quality leisure services and facilities. This will encourage the inactive to become active and the active to be more active, which is a key component of Sport England’s strategy to improve the health and wellbeing of the nation.”
