New Chairman for Arun District Council

 

new chairman and previous charman Councillor Mrs Jacky Pendleton was elected as the new Chairman of Arun District Council at the Annual Council Meeting on 17 May 2017.

Councillor Mrs Pendleton received the chain of office from outgoing Chairman Cllr Stephen Haymes who received a vote of thanks for his contributions to Arun District Council staff fundraising efforts, which, during his year in office raised a total of £6340, benefitting 11 different charities.

Councillor Alan Gammon, ward member for Brookfield ward, Littlehampton was elected as Vice-Chairman of the Council.

At the Chairman’s reception which followed the inauguration, Cllr Mrs Pendleton thanked her guests for attending and announced the two Charities that she will be supporting in her role as chairman.  Representatives from Home-Start Arun and ChallengeU were introduced and shared some information about the work the charities do. During the reception, the fundraising started with a raffle of a luxury hamper from Pallant of Arundel.

Councillor Mrs Pendleton has a professional background in both private business and public service, and her experience in these areas as well as her years of interest and work in Local Government place have prepared her well  role of Chairman.

In addition, Cllr Mrs Pendleton has served on many of our committees, Development Control, Licensing, Development Control Site Inspection Panel, Housing Appeals Panel, Staff Appeals Panel and recently as Vice-Chairman of the Housing & Customer Services Working Group. Councillor Mrs Pendleton is also a Middleton Parish Councillor and newly elected West Sussex County Councillor

Councillor Mrs Pendleton said: “It’s been a pleasure to work for the past year alongside Cllr Haymes as his Vice Chairman and I’ve been fortunate to have had his guidance and learn the ropes from a master.

“I’m looking forward to my year as Chairman, both representing this District at a host of events and meetings as a Civic Ambassador but also to being a fair and sound Chairman of Council meetings and matters.”
