Cooling towers

Cooling towers and evaporative condensers have the potential to cause outbreaks of disease for example legionnaire’s disease.

In the right circumstances’ legionella can multiply in cooling towers and evaporative condensers and can cause infection in people who inhale airborne water droplets which contain the bacteria.

All cooling towers and evaporative condensers within our district must be registered with us under The Notification of Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers Regulations 1992.

The owners of premises that have either cooling towers or evaporative condensers have a duty to keep the systems in good condition under health and safety legislation.
