Guide to applying for £150 energy bill rebate at Grant Approval

Below are the instructions for applying for the £150 council tax rebate via Grant Approval. Select any image to view in a larger size .

1. Go to the Grant Approval website

2. Register for an account and log in

Select the "Register" button. On the next page, scroll down to "Create a new account". You will need to enter your email address in both of the boxes. Next, select the "Register" button.

After you have done this a link to create a password will be emailed to you. If you can't see it in your inbox, check your spam or junk folder. Use this link to set a password then return to the page you were on.

3. Once you have registered log in with your email address and password

Now select "Log in / Register" at the top of the screen. A drop down menu will open. Select "Log in"

Use the email address and password you have chosen in the last step to log in on this next screen.

You are now logged in.

4. Complete your profile

Once you have logged in, select the yellow "Complete your profile" button on the Welcome page.

Now fill in your personal information.

Complete your information accurately. It should match your name and address on your Council Tax letters. You must include a space in your postcode, for example BN17 XXX not BN17XXX. Make sure not to leave any spaces between your phone number.  Once you have done this, select the green "Save" button.

After this the yellow bar at the top will turn green and you can select the green "+ Start Request" button above your details.

5. Select Arun from the drop down list of local authorities (make sure you have selected 'GrantApproval.co.uk' in the black tab at the top to ensure the below screen is shown)

6. Select the blue box “continue as a resident”

The next page will then open automatically.

7. Enter your Property Reference Number and select "Find Schemes"

You don't need to call us for this number. You can find your Council Tax band and property reference number on gov.uk. To find your property reference number, you'll need to select your address once you've entered your post code. On the website it will be the number called "Local authority reference number" and is usually 7 digits long. You can use the blue link under the reference or the green button below to take you to the correct place to find it.

Then select the blue button underneath called "Find Schemes"

Once you have selected this, it will say there are no schemes. Use the green button underneath that says 'all schemes'.

After this, enter the correct details (Arun, Energy Support Payment) and select the blue button 'Load resident schemes' as seen below.

8. Select “start an application” to begin your application

The rest of the process is different depending on whether you are applying for the £150 rebate for Council Tax bands A to D or the discretionary payments for bands E to H.

9. Start your application

The £150 Council Tax Rebate - Non Direct Debit scheme should now come up. Select the green "Start an application" button.

10. Enter your Council Tax account number then complete the declaration

You can find your Council Tax Account number on the top left of your Council Tax bill. It will be 10 digits long. Enter it into the box marked "Your Account Number".

You must read through the declarations section and be able to answer yes for all the declarations to be able to continue. If you are happy, tick each of the boxes, select "yes" as the bottom, then select the green "Continue" button

11. Confirm your home address

The next screen will ask you to select a green button to confirm your home address. As long as this is correct, select to confirm it.

12. Add your details

You have already filled in your personal information so select "Prefill from my Account Information" and this will add your details. You will also need to add your National Insurance number and then select the green "Save" button.

13. Confirm your details

On the next screen you will need to carefully check your information is correct and select continue. You no longer need to upload a bank statement, however if the bank validation checks fail then you will need to provide one. 

14. Enter your bank details so we can pay you

Now enter your bank details, making sure not to leave any spaces or dashes between the numbers, then select the green button called "Save and Continue".

The next screen will ask you to confirm your bank details are correct. Check them carefully and select the green "Confirm and Save" button when you are happy.

15. Confirm fraud checks

Confirm you're happy for the required fraud and identity check to go ahead by reading the information then copying the declaration code into the empty box below, then using the green "Agree to checks" button.

16. Confirm final declaration and apply

Finally read through the declaration and then copy the declaration reference number into the empty box below, then select the green "Click Here to Complete Your Request" button to send us all the information.

Your request is now complete and you will receive a reference number on the next screen. Make a note of this number. You should also receive an email from Grant Approval confirming your reference number.

Discretionary schemes for Council Tax bands E to H

9. Start your application

Some people in bands E to H may be entitled to apply for a discretionary payment. The two discretionary schemes which you may be eligible to apply for should now come up. Read this information carefully then select the green "Start an application" button for the one which fits your circumstances.

10. Enter your Council Tax account number then complete the declaration

You can find your Council Tax Account number on the top left of your Council Tax bill. It will be 10 digits long. Enter it into the box marked "Your Account Number".

11. Confirm your home address

The next screen will ask you to select a green button to confirm your home address. As long as this is correct, select to confirm it.

12. Add your details

You have already filled in your personal information so simply use "Prefill from my Account Information" and this will add your details. You will also need to add your National Insurance number and then select the green "Save" button.

13. Complete the mandatory questions

To check if you can apply, you need to answer all the questions on the next screen and then select the blue "Save" button. For each discretionary scheme there are different questions which all need to be answered.

14. Confirm your details and upload documents

On the next screen you will need to carefully check your information is correct and then select the green button called "Continue to >> upload documents".

To confirm your identity and prevent fraud you need to upload a bank statement from the last 30 days which shows your name, address, sort code and account number. 

Save a scanned or photographed copy of your bank statement to your device. Next select "choose file" and select the correct file. Upload your bank statement

Use the blue "Upload" button once you have chosen the correct file.

Depending on your circumstances we may also request evidence of the higher household energy usage due to your Carer responsibilities, and evidence that supports the exceptional circumstances that you have detailed in the scheme questions and any evidence of your war pension or of being a former military veteran. You need to submit at least one document for each required section that comes up.

After each document has uploaded the page will update to show your file. If you are uploading documents for multiple sections you need to do each one in turn. You then need to select the green button called "Continue to >> Enter Bank Details".

15. Enter your bank details so we can pay you

Now enter your bank details, making sure not to leave any spaces or dashes between the numbers, then select the green button called "Save and Continue".

The next screen will ask you to confirm your bank details are correct. Check them carefully and use the green "Confirm and Save" button when you are happy.

16. Confirm fraud checks

Confirm you're happy for the required fraud and identity check to go ahead by reading the information then copying the declaration code into the empty box below, then selecting the green "Agree to checks" button.

17. Confirm final declaration and apply

Finally read through the declaration and then copy the declaration reference number into the empty box below, then select the green "Click Here to Complete Your Request" button to send us all the information.

Your request is now complete and you will receive a reference number on the next screen. Make a note of this number. You should also receive an email from Grant Approval confirming your reference number.
