Alcohol and entertainment (Licensing Act 2003)

The below fees apply to new/conversion premises/club licence/certificate. Fees set nationally by the government.

There are supplementary fees where the premises sell alcohol which may vary according to the application. There are also multipliers for very large premises that exclusively sell alcohol as their primary use.

No fee is chargeable for regulated entertainment such as live and recorded music plays and performance of dance at schools, community centres and village halls.

Notes

  1. The fee for the first knowledge test is free. Subsequent tests are £75 each.
  2. The cost for a medical is payable to the applicant’s own general practitioner.
  3. Medicals are required on first application, then at 45, and then every five years until 65 years of age, and annually thereafter.
  4. DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks and subscription service will be made at the expense of the individual when they are required.
  5. Late applications for driver licences will be charged an additional fee.
  6. New drivers of hackney, private hire or horse drawn carriages will be charged the actual cost for a DBS check in addition to the application fee.
  7. Other charges will apply not payable to the authority. This includes the vehicle fitness test.
