Artisan market returns to Littlehampton

A popular market offering arts and crafts and local produce is returning to Littlehampton town centre after a successful first year.

Littlehampton Artisan Market has gone from strength to strength since it launched in May 2015, attracting more stallholders and shoppers each time.

The monthly market has helped increase footfall in the town centre by boasting an array of creatively filled gazebos, vibrant art displays and inviting attractions which draw people to experience the variety of shops available in Littlehampton.

Shoppers have also been kept entertained with quirky events which were organised by Staci Mendoza-Quinn of LOCA (Littlehampton Organisation of Contemporary Arts).

John Edjvet, Littlehampton Town Centre Regeneration Officer for Arun District Council, said: “It is great to see the Littlehampton Artisan Market return to the town centre.

“I am looking forward to the market building on the success of its first year. Working with Littlehampton Traders Partnership, we wanted to make this different from other markets and the wide-ranging and unique stall holders have certainly achieved this, as you won’t find a market quite like this one anywhere else.

“This market demonstrates the strength of community spirit in Littlehampton by offering a family friendly feel.”

Councillor Mrs Gillian Brown, Leader of Arun District Council and Cabinet Member for Council Strategy, said: “I am delighted that the Artisan Market is coming back to Littlehampton for a second year.

“Arun District Council is carrying out large and small projects to boost footfall and help businesses to thrive in Littlehampton. Amongst these projects is the building of a new larger state-of-the-art leisure centre costing £16million and other initiatives to better connect the town centre to the riverside and seafront parts of the town.

“Events like the artisan market draw people to Littlehampton and highlight the unique shops available in the town centre.”

The market is held on the first Saturday of each month and is expected to resume in April.

Staci Mendoza-Quinn, chair of LOCA, said: “The town of Littlehampton has the character of a charming village, mixed with the buzz of busy maritime activities and unbounding creativity locally.

“The Littlehampton Town Artisan Market simply mimics the town’s natural assets and celebrates these with the greater community at large in our area along the South Coast.”
