Arun District Council begins West Bersted Planning consultation
The public consultation period has now been extended to run up until the 21 September 2020. All comments will be taken into account which are submitted within this extended consultation period and reported to Members of the Development Control Committee.
Arun District Council is launching a community consultation exercise to gather views on the draft West Bersted Framework Masterplan.
The Framework Masterplan will support the development of housing, employment, a school, sports and other community facilities. The site has been allocated for development within the Local Plan (adopted July 2018) and can accommodate at least 2,500 homes as well as employment uses. The Masterplan will shape the future growth of the West of Bersted site by providing a comprehensive vision and framework for consideration of future planning applications within the site.
Starting on 24 August 2020, the consultation, follows on from the public consultation recently carried out by the developers on the Framework Masterplan which has been summarised in this updated version of the document following the developer’s public consultation period. This consultation is an opportunity for you to make comments directly to the Council on the Framework Masterplan prior to endorsement of the document.
The Framework Masterplan considers:
- Principles of layout
- Vehicular, pedestrian and cycle access points serving the development
- Likely quantum of housing
- Location of infrastructure provision in relation to schools, sports pitches and local centres
- Principles of blue and green infrastructure
The consultation will run for four weeks from 24 August 2020 until 21 September 2020. The details for the draft Framework Masterplan and consultation will be available online at https://arun.objective.co.uk/kse (the link will be live between 24 August 2020 – 21 September 2020) where you will be able to comment on the document. Alternatively, you can submit comments via email to strategic@arun.gov.uk
Following the consultation, a report will be prepared for Development Control Committee on the 29 September 2020 seeking endorsement of the Masterplan. Comments received will be reviewed and reported to the Committee.

Cllr Martin Lury, Cabinet Member for Planning said: “The West Bersted Strategic Development site was allocated in the adopted Arun Local Plan. This Masterplan Framework seeks to deliver 2,500 homes towards the Council’s requirement for 20,000 up to 2031 with associated infrastructure. The Framework seeks to set the principles upon which future planning applications will be based.”
