Big day for small businesses

Traders across the Arun district are in for an early Christmas treat thanks to an annual event to promote independent businesses.

Small Business Saturday, a national campaign to encourage local shopping, has received support from many local traders and shoppers. The event is being supported by Littlehampton Traders’ Partnership and is being run by Littlehampton’s Organisation of Contemporary Arts (LOCA).

This year, the event takes place in Littlehampton High Street on Saturday, 5 December from 9am to 5pm and shoppers visiting the town can enjoy all day free parking at St Martin’s and Manor House car parks.

The Christmas-themed event includes a DJ and a variety of musical performers, and traders will have lots to offer including a warm welcome.

Cilla Millen, the shop’s owner, said: “We look forward to seeing our regular customers and welcoming new ones to our shop on Small Business Saturday.

“We will have a range of special offers available on stock frames and wall art throughout the day.”

Arundel will host Arundel by Candlelight from midday whilst in Bognor Regis the town is marking Small Business Saturday through the Christmas Market and on the same day. There will be free parking at Fitzleet, Lyon Street and Hothamton car parks in Bognor Regis and Arundel’s Crown Yard car park.

Councillor Mrs Gillian Brown, Leader of Arun District Council and Cabinet Member for Council Strategy, said: “Small businesses play an important part in making the local economy successful.

“In Arun we are lucky to have some great small businesses who offer fantastic customer service and with Christmas fast approaching they make great places to buy presents during the festive season.”
