How can I get help?
You can access the Triage Advice service by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, by phoning 01903 737552 or by visiting our offices. Please note, our drop in advice service is available from 9:00-12:00 daily and from 14:00-16:45 Monday – Thursday and from 14:00-16:15 on Fridays.
What will happen when I ask for help?
We will try not to keep you waiting, however, we may already be with a customer when you arrive, so you may have to wait for advice. Our advice service is currently being provided face to face at Littlehampton Civic Centre, however, if you visit the Bognor Town Hall, we can still arrange for you to speak to an advisor on our courtesy phone. You will be asked some questions regarding your housing circumstances. Depending on your current situation, you may need to provide a range of documents and asked to complete a form – we cannot progress an application without the requested information.
We are likely to request: photographic identification, National Insurance number, at least 3 months bank statements for all accounts held by household members, any documents relating to any tenancy you might have, any notice you may have been served, 5 years address history and possibly more. You will be provided with a full list by the advisor, which will be tailored for your circumstances. You will also need an email address so we can contact you. Once we have received all the required information, you will be booked an appointment for a full assessment.
What happens at the appointment?
If we assess that you are eligible for assistance and at risk of homelessness within 56 days, we will have a duty to try to prevent your homelessness. You will be provided with a Personalised Housing Plan (PHP), which details steps you and the Council will need to take to try to prevent your homelessness.
If we assess that you are eligible for assistance and are homeless, we will have a duty to try to relieve your homelessness. Please be aware, this does not always mean we have a duty to provide you with alternative accommodation. You will be provided with a Personalised Housing Plan (PHP), which details steps you and the Council will need take to try to relieve your homelessness.
Please seek Housing Advice at the earliest opportunity if you are homeless or think that you may be threatened with homelessness.
