National fraud initiative - data matching exercise privacy notice
Under Part 6 of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014, Arun District Council is legally required to provide data to the Cabinet Office for the purposes of the National Fraud Initiative (NFI).
The information submitted will be used by the Cabinet Office to perform data matching exercises to assist in the prevention and detection of fraud. The use of data in this way does not require the consent of the individuals concerned under data protection legislation or the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The information submitted by the council will be compared against data supplied from other sources and matches found will be referred back to the originating organisation to investigate further.
On an annual basis, the Cabinet Office undertakes data matching in respect of Council Tax single person discount entitlement with the council supplying data (next due in December 2023) in respect of:
- council tax
- electoral register
The main NFI exercise takes place every 2 years. The next data required will be supplied during October 2024.
