Many join Arun Chairman for Armistice Day Two Minute Silence

Arun District Council’s Chairman Cllr Andy Cooper was joined by members of the Royal British Legion, the Royal Naval Association, Nick Gibb MP, Arun District Council’s Leader Cllr Mrs Gillian Brown, Arun District Councillors, Senior Council Officers and staff, the Deputy Mayor of Littlehampton Cllr Ian Buckland and other members of Littlehampton Town Council along with 90 children from River Beach Primary School and members of the public as people across the country fell silent to remember and honour those who have sacrificed themselves to secure and protect our freedom. On Armistice Day at 11 am on Wednesday 11 November 2014.

The Service was conducted by Father Roger Caswell, Vicar of St Mary’s Church, Littlehampton.  Maroons were fired to mark the beginning and end of the two minutes silence, Mr Derek Moore from the Royal British Legion delivered the Exaltation and Arun Officer, Steve Arnell provided the haunting bugle sound of the Last Post and Reveille.

Cllr Cooper said: “I would like to thank everyone involved in organising and taking part in the service today and in the numerous services that took place across the District on Remembrance Sunday.  It is quite something to know that citizens countrywide stop to mark the 2 minutes silence each year to show their respect for the brave men and women who have served in both past and present conflicts.  I would ask everyone to support their local Royal British Legion and Royal Naval Association who give vital support to our Armed Forces Community and continue to need members to volunteer at many of their branches to continue the valuable work they do."
