The Cabinet
Role
The Cabinet comprises seven Councillors, all representing the majority party of the Council. There is a Leader, Deputy Leader and five Cabinet Members - each with a specific ’portfolio’ of responsibilities, which are listed in full in the Council’s Constitution.
The Cabinet takes key decisions on Council policy, the acquisition and disposal of land and sets much of the strategy for how Council services will be delivered. It also receives recommendations from the Scrutiny Committees on policy development and review.
Cabinet Members are also able to take decisions on an individual basis. Individual Cabinet Member Decisions
In accordance with Article 7.8.2, the Leader of the Council has provided written notice of the re-allocation of responsibilities for Executive functions between Members of the Cabinet, including changes to the names of the Cabinet Portfolios. The proposed Cabinet Portfolios and appointments, as agreed at the Annual Council Meeting held on 9 May 2012. The amendments arising from these changes in terms of responsibility of functions will be provided in a full report to the next Full Council Meeting taking place on 11 July 2012 and the details below will be updated to include the full functions and responsibilities for each Cabinet Member after this meeting.
