Arun District set to celebrate Queen's birthday

Residents from across the Arun District will be marking the Queen’s 90th birthday in a variety of ways.

Local residents have been involved in the on-going ‘Clean for the Queen’ campaign, which urges people from across Britain to tidy their communities in time for her Majesty’s celebrations.

Closer to home Bognor Regis and Littlehampton Town Councils will be lighting beacons as part of a national network of beacons that will be lit as darkness falls this evening (Thursday, 21 April) on the Queen’s actual birthday.

The Queen will mark her official birthday on the weekend of the 11 June. Arun residents wishing to organise a street party are being encourage to do so. There are a few simple tips and guidelines to follow. You will need to make an application to Arun District Council up to six weeks in advance of your street party. Just visit our events page, all you need is a simple map of the road you wish to use.

If your party is private and for residents only you do not need Public Liability Insurance, a formal Risk Assessment (although it is good sense to consider any likely possible risks connected to your street party and make appropriate provision). If you intend to sell alcohol and/or food at your event you will of course need to apply to Arun District Council for the relevant licenses.

Larger groups and organisations wishing to hold public events should contact the Arun Events team for more information at events@arun.gov.uk or call 01903 737920.

Councillor Andy Cooper, Chairman of Arun District Council, said: “On behalf of all the residents of the Arun district it is a very great privilege to be sending our heartfelt congratulations to Her Majesty the Queen on the occasion of her 90th birthday.

“I hope the beacon lighting organised in Bognor Regis and Littlehampton by the Town Councils this evening will mark this auspicious occasion in a very visible way and be enjoyed by everyone that attends.

I do hope that many residents may also want to organise local street parties to mark the official celebration of the Queen’s birthday on the weekend of 11 June and it is not too late to apply for permission and all the details are available on the Arun District Council website.”
