Gypsies, Travellers and Travelling Showpeople
The council is required to plan for the needs of Gypsies, Travellers and Travelling Showpeople in accordance with government guidance. Local Plan policy H SP5 makes a commitment to produce a Gypsy & Traveller and Travelling Showpeople Site Allocations document.
A Gypsy & Traveller Development Plan Document (G&T DPD) was prepared and consulted on between December 2023 and February 2024. However, shortly after the consultation commenced, the government announced a change to the definition of Gypsy & Traveller households, which placed the G&T DPD at significant risk of failing key tests and not being adopted. The council accordingly resolved to withdraw the document but bank the work that had been undertaken for inclusion / consideration within the Local Plan update.
