Heritage at Risk

The Heritage at Risk Register is maintained by Historic England. It identifies historic sites across the country that are most at risk of being lost due to neglect, decay, or inappropriate development.

Heritage at Risk includes a wide range of historic places, such as:

  • listed buildings
  • places of worship
  • scheduled monuments
  • conservation areas

These sites have been assessed and found to be vulnerable. They may be suffering from structural problems, environmental damage, or lack of maintenance.

In the Arun Local Planning Authority area, we have the following assets at risk:

Scheduled ancient monuments

Listed buildings

Why Heritage at Risk matters

These places are part of our shared history and identity. When they fall into disrepair, we risk losing valuable cultural and architectural heritage. The register helps focus attention and resources on the sites that need it most.
