4 weeks until COP26
The countdown continues for COP26, and with less than a month to go the conference is approaching quickly. Energy is one of the main talking points this year and will aim to put this important subject at the front of the fight against reducing emissions and our impact on the climate.
Domestic energy usage is a major cause of emissions across the county, mainly due to homes being poorly insulated and having outdated and non-efficient heating systems. By undertaking upgrades there will not only be a reduction in emissions, but there will also be a drop in energy bills and people’s homes will be better insulated and heated during winter months. The West Sussex Affordable Energy Partnership has recently released its second newsletter which contains helpful information on home energy support which is available for residents across West Sussex. This is a great resource to help seek energy advice and support.
We have undertaken a very high level desktop assessment on our own housing stock, in respect of both the EPC target for 2030 and the 2050 net zero carbon target. Over the coming months more detailed analysis will be undertaken which will inform our strategic approach and the roadmap to how these targets will be achieved.
Remember to tune into COP26 to see how this important subject will be addressed.
