7 weeks until COP26
The countdown continues for COP26, and with only 7 weeks to go the conference is fast approaching. One of the main talking points for this is nature and the natural habitat, with an aim to put this important issue at the forefront of our battle with climate change.
Our district is filled with a huge range of biodiversity thanks to our 15 miles (approx.) of coastline, green space and area within the South Downs National Park. Here at Arun District Council we are striving to protect and enhance these natural habitats as they hold so much value to our residents and support a vast range of ecology. We are working to develop our tree planting strategy to further enhance our woodland habitats. Every time we plant a tree we ensure it is the right (native) tree in the right place! On a smaller scale we are continuing to increase our areas of long grass (by 5% each year) and wildflower meadows to ensure that our space is as diverse as possible. Leaving these areas longer provides important food and homes for smaller mammals, birds and insects.
Remember to tune into COP26 to see what they say about protecting the worlds natural habitats and why it is so important.
