Alexandra Arts Centre construction work - progress update July

Project update for July Alexandra Arts CentreFollowing the recent exciting announcement confirming opening in Spring 2027, construction work continues at pace on the Alexandra Arts Centre, with significant milestones reached over the past two weeks and further activity planned through to the end of July.

Recent progress

Between 5 and 29 June, the project team made good progress in a number of areas:

  •  windows and curtain walling - installation of new windows and glazed external walls continued, with further sections of the building's modern facade taking shape
  • roofing - work across both the standing seam (a type of metal roofing or cladding where the joints are raised above the surface) and felt roofing sections of the building continued to progress
  • internal work - dry lining and decoration works advanced internally, alongside structural alterations to reconfigure parts of the building's interior
  • lift installation - preparatory work for the building's new lift has begun, marking an important step toward its installation
  • external decoration and masonry - decoration has been applied to the existing masonry walls of the east elevation facing the car park, while masonry works have begun on the new extension
  • incoming services - new incoming services and data connections were brought in via Belmont Street, supported by groundworks to prepare for the new utility infrastructure, with mechanical and electrical works also progressing
  • new substation installed and live - in a significant milestone for the project, a new electrical substation has been successfully installed and brought live, marking a major step forward in securing permanent power to the building
  • final cable connections to the arts centre are being completed soon, after which the focus will turn to metering and ensuring fully usable power is established on site - essential for the works and fit-out programme that follows

What's coming up?

Work is set to continue on all of the above, with several new phases also getting underway:

  • the east elevation, facing the car park, will see external decoration applied to the existing masonry walls, while masonry works also begin on the new extension
  • inside, preparatory work for the building's new lift will continue, leading towards its installation
  • the team will also take delivery of external plant equipment, which will be lifted onto the new roof in preparation for installation

With both internal and external works advancing in parallel, the project continues towards delivering a new high-quality arts centre for the people of Bognor Regis in 2027.
