Alexandra Arts Centre progress update

Alexandra Arts Centre progress update June 2026Construction at the Alexandra Arts Centre continues to progress well, with the project moving further into its exterior and finishing phases.

It has been a while since our last update but activity on site over the past four weeks has been wide-ranging and increasingly visible, with the building taking shape both inside and out.

Work completed: 4 May - 29 May 2026

  • curtain walling and glazing: installation of the large, glazed sections forming the building's modern external façade has continued, with this work becoming one of the most striking and visible signs of progress for anyone passing the site
  • window installation: windows have been installed to the existing theatre building, completing an important step in sealing the building and exterior
  • masonry preparation and cleaning: the existing brickwork has been cleaned and prepared ahead of the commencement of new external brickwork and decoration work, ensuring surfaces are ready for the next phase of finishing
  • roofing: felt roofing and standing seam metal roofing work has continued across the building, the fly tower, and the west extension, maintaining progress toward a fully weathertight structure across all areas
  • internal decoration: a mist coat (the first base layer of paint) has been applied across the interior of the existing theatre including the auditorium roof, marking the beginning of the internal finishing programme and a visible sign that the project is moving into its later stages

Planned work: 1 June - 19 June 2026

  • external brickwork: new brickwork forming the below-ground elements of the building's external façade will begin, an important step in completing the finished appearance of the theatre from street level
  • external decoration: painting and decoration of the building's exterior will begin, which will start to bring the theatre's finished look to life and make a significant visual difference to the appearance of the site
  • curtain walling and glazing: installation of the glazed façade elements will continue, with further sections expected to be completed as this prominent and eye-catching feature of the new building progresses
  • roofing: work across all roofing areas will continue, with the team focusing on achieving full weathertightness across every part of the building
  • internal decoration: following the mist coat application, decoration work will continue to done internally, laying the groundwork for the broader internal fit-out programme to follow

The project team remains focused on maintaining steady progress as the Alexandra Arts Centre moves closer to completion and continues to deliver on its ambition to provide a landmark cultural venue for Bognor Regis.
