Alexandra Theatre construction work - 6 March 2026
Construction at the Alexandra Theatre in Bognor Regis has seen further progress made across roofing, structural steelwork and internal layout work.
Delivered by Neilcott Construction Ltd on behalf of Arun District Council, the project remains under active management and regular site inspection as the building moves steadily towards achieving a fully weather-tight shell.
Recent progress highlights (9 - 23 February)
· auditorium steelwork advancing - structural steel installation continues within the auditorium, including the new lighting bridge, which will support future productions and enhance the theatre's technical capability
· flat roofing works ongoing - installation of tapered insulation to the new-build extension roof are helping form the upper roof levels and ensure effective drainage and long-term weather protection
· roof preparation to existing theatre - the built-up roofing system to the existing theatre is getting ready for the installation of aluminium roof sheets
· temporary window hoardings completed - installation of temporary hoardings to window openings has been completed, improving internal protection while work continue.
· internal layout progressing - setting out of internal partitions at ground and second floor level has advanced, further defining future room layouts and circulation spaces.
· fire protection works completed - specialist fire-protective coatings to roof steels within the auditorium have now been completed, ensuring compliance with safety standards and preparing the structure for subsequent phases.
· fly tower access scaffold erected - access scaffolding has been installed to enable forthcoming cladding work to the fly tower
Planned work (early March)
· completion of auditorium steelwork - structural steel installations and alterations within the auditorium will continue, including final work to the lighting bridge
· upper roof work progressing - flat roofing installation to the upper levels of the new extension will advance further
· existing roof preparation continuing - the built-up system to the existing theatre will progress ahead of the aluminium roof covering installation
· scaffold adjustments within auditorium - internal scaffold alterations will support ongoing steel and roof work
· fly tower roofing to commence - construction of the flat roofing structure to the fly tower is set to begin
Continued focus on delivery
The Alexandra Theatre redevelopment remains a central part of the wider Regis Rejuvenation programme. As roofing work progresses and internal spaces become increasingly defined, the project continues to move closer to securing a fully enclosed and weather-tight structure, paving the way for the next stages of internal fit-out.
