Alexandra Theatre redevelopment continues with roof-level structural works
The next phase for the theatre in Bognor Regis will involve a reinforced concrete (RC) frame construction and roof-level structural works, critical in shaping the new spaces within the theatre and preparing the building for future fit-out and restoration.
The project is being delivered by Neilcott Construction Ltd on behalf of Arun District Council and remains under close supervision with regular site inspections.
Recent progress highlights:
- RC frame rising on west elevation: work on the new RC frame to the building's west side has now progressed to just below the lower roof level, forming part of the permanent structural layout of the theatre's extension
- first floor RC frame to north elevation: construction of the first-floor concrete frame on the northern side of the site is progressing well, supporting the continued build-up of the theatre's structure
- dormer works ongoing: roof dormer construction to the west elevation of the existing auditorium continues, with the third dormer due for completion this week. These new dormers are a key part of restoring and reconfiguring the historic roof
- internal works in progress: demolition and internal builders' works continue throughout the existing building, preparing spaces for refurbishment and modernisation
What's next:
- continued structural progress: RC frame works will continue to rise, including the construction of vertical columns and internal walls
- ongoing dormer construction: work on the dormers along the west-facing roof pitch will proceed, gradually completing each unit as part of the roof reconfiguration
- internal layout development: builders' works will carry on inside the main auditorium and new Studio 5, shaping future performance and rehearsal spaces
