Alexandra Theatre redevelopment sees major progress on roofing and internal work
Following a short festive break, work has resumed on the redevelopment of the Alexandra Theatre in Bognor Regis, with steady progress made throughout January on key construction works across the new extension and existing theatre building.
Delivered by Neilcott Construction Ltd on behalf of Arun District Council, the project remains on track and continues to be managed safely and effectively through regular site inspections and coordination with the wider project team.
January progress highlights:
- roofing underway to new extension - installation of the flat roofing system has progressed, with protective layers now in place to seal the new building and prepare it for internal fit‑out
- roofing preparation to existing building - work to the existing theatre roof has advanced, with built-up roofing systems being installed in preparation for aluminium roof sheets to be fitted in the coming weeks
- steel protection and internal work - work has started to apply specialist fire‑protective coatings to the roof steelwork in the existing auditorium. Temporary hoardings have also been installed to window openings, and internal partition layout works have begun at first floor level
Looking ahead to early February:
- structural steelwork modifications - installation of structural steel within the existing theatre will begin, enabling key design changes and supporting the ongoing transformation of internal spaces
- continued roofing work - roofing installation will continue across both the new extension and existing building, including further progress to the tapered insulation and weatherproofing layers
- expanded internal layout - setting out of internal partitions will continue across the ground and second floors, helping to define future circulation and activity spaces within the redeveloped theatre
- fire protection nearing completion - specialist coatings to roof steels in the auditorium will be completed, further preparing the structure for later construction phases
As construction continues into 2026, the Alexandra Theatre project remains a key part of the wider Regis Rejuvenation programme, with each milestone bringing the venue closer to reopening as a vibrant, accessible and modern cultural hub for Bognor Regis.
