Alexandra Theatre redevelopment update: roofing and structural work progress
Construction at the Alexandra Theatre in Bognor Regis continues to progress well, with external envelope works now advancing across both the new extension and existing theatre building. As the project team moves towards the end-of-year break, activity on site remains focused on roofing, and superstructure works.
Led by Neilcott Construction Ltd on behalf of Arun District Council, the project remains on track, with safety and delivery continuing to be actively managed through regular inspections and programme monitoring.
Recent progress highlights
- steel framing system (SFS) installation advancing - SFS work has progressed along both the west and north elevations of the new extension, helping to define the external envelope of the new-build areas
- roofing to new extension underway - flat roof work, including felt installation, is in progress across the new extension, providing early protection and weatherproofing
- internal blockwork progressing - internal wall construction has continued within the new café and kitchen area in the west extension, helping shape the layout of the future public-facing spaces
- main theatre roof preparation - work is underway to prepare the original roof structure for its new external covering, with final installation scheduled for early 2026
- ongoing work within the existing theatre - internal strip-out and preparatory work continues within the retained theatre building to enable follow-on trades and new steelwork
- superstructure carpentry work - infill carpentry work has progressed across the structure as required to support detailing and weatherproofing
Looking ahead to early 2026
When work resumes in January, key activities will include:
- continuation of SFS installation to the extension
- ongoing flat roof installation
- new roof coverings to the existing theatre
- structural steel installation within the retained theatre building

This update marks the final construction summary for 2025. As the site winds down ahead of the seasonal break, the project remains on programme and safely managed. Activity will resume in early January, with further updates shared as progress continues.
