Alexandra Theatre's next phase to start as concrete works near completion
Construction at the Alexandra Theatre in Bognor Regis continues to make strong progress, with the reinforced concrete (RC) structure now nearing completion and preparation underway for the next stages of internal and structural works.
The project, delivered by Neilcott Construction Ltd on behalf of Arun District Council, remains on programme and under active management through regular site monitoring.
Recent progress highlights:
- lower roof preparation underway: work is progressing on the shuttering and steel reinforcement required for the lower roof section, with a concrete pour scheduled for Friday 10 October. This marks a key structural milestone in forming the new roof levels of the extension
- stair core reinforcement: shuttering and steelwork to form the north staircase is now in progress, providing critical vertical access within the building once completed
- dormer construction completed: four new dormers on the west elevation of the existing building are now complete. These additions support the theatre's roof reconfiguration and contribute to the wider refurbishment of the original auditorium structure
- internal adaptation works underway: minor demolition, survey work and enabling activities are ongoing within the existing building. These works will support the introduction of follow-on trades for internal fit-out and masonry
What's next:
- RC frame completion and site reorganisation: with the core concrete frame reaching completion, the project team will begin the decanting process - removing formwork and reorganising the site for the next construction phases
- steel structure installation: structural framing steel works are set to begin shortly. This phase will shape the final superstructure, enabling clearer definition of internal spaces and roof forms
- internal masonry begins: brick and blockwork will commence within the existing building and new extensions, supporting the creation of partition walls, service risers and internal layout elements
Continued focus on delivery and safety
As with all stages of this complex regeneration project, construction continues to be carefully managed, with safety, access and programme coordination a key priority across the site. The project remains on schedule, with major visual changes to the building now becoming increasingly evident.
