Arun Wellbeing welcomed at White Meadows!

Wellbeing Team at White Meadows The Arun Wellbeing team received a very warm (and not just because of the weather!) and enthusiastic welcome from the staff, parents and carers of children at White Meadows Academy in Littlehampton on Tuesday 9 July.

The team offered mini, confidential Wellbeing MOTs and worked with over 150 people in just an hour. The team weighed and measured people in the playground and gave away over 200 water bottles and squidgy stress-apples. The health assessments provided an eye-opening experience for some, with one mum saying, “I didn’t realise I was this heavy, I think I need to do something now. I think I may have had too many takeaways!”

The alcohol unit measuring glasses that the team had with them were particularly fascinating, and many parents were surprised when they saw how little alcohol made 1 unit.

The team talked to parents, grandparents and carers to raise awareness of the Arun Wellbeing service. This followed healthy eating sessions with children in years five and six. The team also provided workplace Wellbeing MOTS for some staff working at the school.

The Arun Wellbeing Team provide free Wellbeing support and advice to adults in the Arun District to tackle the risk factors that contribute to the development of heart disease, cancers, stroke and type 2 diabetes. The team focuses on the importance of a healthy diet, being the right weight for your height, taking regular physical activity, sensible drinking and stopping smoking. The Wellbeing team also offers 1:2:1 appointments to tackle issues head-on, together with workshops and weekly group sessions to learn, get motivated and improve an individuals overall health and wellbeing.

Arun Wellbeing also has two award-winning home energy visitors that offer support to find the best energy tariffs and help tackle some of the big and expensive issues such as replacing a broken boiler.

One of the White Meadows parents said,” I didn’t realise we had services like this on our doorstep, I’m going to get in touch with you to help me.”
