BBQs are not permitted on any beaches in Arun
Most locals know about the rule about BBQs on our beaches and we're grateful for that. Sadly, we've had several significant fires caused by BBQs on our beaches, where they are not permitted.
We have several BBQ areas (appropriate large metal BBQs with fire bins attached) for public use near our beaches, these are:
- Littlehampton - West Green activity area, located near the water play area
- Ferring - at Goring Gap
- Felpham - on the green space adjacent to the beach
Once you've found a suitable location for your BBQ, please make sure:
- your BBQ is fully extinguished and cold before disposing of it safely
- the BBQ is not put into normal litter bins which can ignite
- you tidy up any other rubbish items, put them in a bin or take them home
If you're having a BBQ at home - a few simple steps can help keep everyone safe:
- keep BBQs well away from fences, sheds and anything that could catch fire
- never leave a BBQ unattended
- keep children and pets at a safe distance
- avoid using BBQs in dry, windy conditions
- ensure coals are fully extinguished and cool before disposing
Fires can spread quickly and become dangerous, harming people and damaging property.
The image shows a damaged groyne on the beach in Felpham. Groynes are there to control drifting materials and reduce beach erosion and are extremely expensive to replace.
Enjoy the lovely weather, stay safe and protect yourself and everyone around you.
