Sand castle heaven arrives in Bognor Regis

A purpose built sand play area for children on Bognor Regis seafront has opened.

Beach on the Beach is the name of the sand play area, and it will provide a new free activity for families with young children on the town's famous promenade.

The sand play area can be found next to the promenade west to the Bullnose opposite Place St Maur.

Karl Roberts, Arun District Council's Director of Planning and Economic Regeneration, said: "

“Arun District Council has ensured the children’s sand play area is up and running in time for the Easter school holidays.

The sand has been specially chosen to make the best sandcastles while still being clean and hygienic for children to play with.

“The sand pit is enclosed by a low fence which acts both as a windbreak and to keep children safe.  Hopefully as the weather gets warmer and sunnier more and more families will visit Beach on the Beach and want to build lots of sandcastles.

“Beach on the Beach is a one year pilot project which will be reviewed at the end of the summer season. If this trial project is deemed to be a success, the sand play area will be covered over during the winter, ready to re-use the following year.

“We are asking people to tell us what they think of the sand play area and to share their photographs of children enjoying making sandcastles.”
