Bike Week - 9 to 15 June 2025
This year Bike Week is from 9 to 15 June, and Cycling UK is encouraging everyone to hop on their bikes and enjoy the benefits of cycling. Whether it's a short trip to the shops, a family ride through the park or down to the beach. Swapping the car for a bike can make a big difference for many reasons.
Why cycle?
- cut emissions: transport is the UK's largest source of emissions. Choosing active travel, like cycling helps us move closer to our net zero goals
- boost your health: cycling improves both your mental and physical wellbeing
- save money: it's one of the most cost-effective ways to get around
As an employer, Arun District Council offers shower facilities and bicycle storage for staff who wish to travel to work by bike.
We also have a salary sacrifice scheme for purchasing a bike and if we use a bike for business-related travel instead of a car (not for commute), we can claim cycle mileage at a rate of 20p per mile. This is a tax-free allowance set by HMRC in the UK and is designed to encourage greener, healthier travel options.
