Business case in response to the Government’s invitation on local government reorganisation completed
West Sussex councils have reached a significant milestone in the journey towards reshaping local government.
A business case for local government reorganisation has now been completed and will be presented at council meetings across the county, districts, and boroughs towards the end of September. You can find the papers for this meeting here: (Public Pack)Agenda Document for Full Council, 24/09/2025 18:00
This marks a key step in the collaborative effort of all councils in response to the government's requirement to re-structure local government.
Councils will submit a letter to central government on 26 September proposing their preferred option for local government in West Sussex.
Following this, the government will carry out stakeholder consultation and a final decision from government is anticipated in spring 2026.
Leader of Arun District Council, Cllr Martin Lury says:
"This milestone reflects the dedication and collaboration of councils across West Sussex in responding to the government's request for reorganisation. We are grateful to the thousands of people who contributed to the Shaping West Sussex engagement, your voices have helped shape a business case that puts residents first. We will share more about the option we have decided to support when this has been discussed at our Full Council meeting on 24 September."
