Community Governance consultation - last chance to have your say

community governance review - last chance to have your sayA community governance review (CGR) is a legal process carried out by a principal council (such as a district or borough council) to review and make changes to local governance arrangements.

This typically involves looking at the structure and boundaries of parishes (also known as local councils), and can include:

  • creating, merging, altering, or abolishing parishes
  • changing parish boundaries or names
  • reviewing the electoral arrangements for parishes (such as the number of councillors, warding, and election years)
  • considering other local governance arrangements, like parish meetings

The main aim of a CGR is to ensure that community governance reflects the identities and interests of local communities and provides effective and convenient local government. The process involves public consultation and takes into account factors such as community cohesion, the size and population of parishes, and the equitable representation of electors

Arun District Council has been working on a community governance review programme across the district to consider whether governance arrangements within Arun are:

a) reflective of the identities of the community in that area

b) effective and convenient to the community in that area

The programme started in February this year and included a number of parish areas across the district; we are asking for responses from electors on possible changes to their voting arrangements.

Please complete Community governance review programme 2026 - Consultation on Draft Recommendations which asks the community to look at proposals on whether a parish council or councils should be established in these unparished areas and for them to give their ideas and views as part of our public consultation.
