Council’s Warm Homes Programme supports energy efficiency improvements

Investing in warmer, cost-efficient homesArun District Council is pleased to share progress on its Warm Homes Programme, delivered in partnership with E.ON, which is helping to improve the energy efficiency of homes across the district.

The council has committed £4 million to co-fund the programme, alongside £3.3 million in external grant funding. In total, 381 homes have been identified to benefit from the scheme over a three-year period, with the potential for additional grant funding to be secured as the project progresses.

The programme focuses on supporting residents by improving the energy performance of their homes, with a target of achieving an EPC rating of C or above where possible. Measures being installed include insulation, solar panels and air source heat pumps, tailored to individual properties.

Since the programme began, improvement work has already been completed in 61 homes, helping residents to reduce energy costs and improve comfort.

While the programme is delivering strong progress in numbers, its real impact can be seen in the difference it makes to residents' day-to-day lives. Many households are seeing noticeable reductions in their energy bills. For some tenants, this can mean savings of several hundred pounds a year, helping to ease cost-of-living pressures and freeing up income for essentials such as food, childcare and transport.

For families, this can make a meaningful difference. Children can spend time in their bedrooms comfortably - whether that's doing homework, reading, or getting a good night's sleep - without the challenges that come with cold or damp conditions.

Councillor Carol Birch, Chair of the Arun District Council Housing and Wellbeing Committee, said:

“We are committed to supporting our residents to live in warmer, more energy-efficient homes. The Warm Homes Programme is an important step in that journey, and it's encouraging to see steady progress being made, with 61 homes already benefiting from improvements.

“We recognise the importance of delivering these projects effectively and sustainably. Working with our partner E.ON and building on available funding opportunities, we are focused on continuing to make measurable improvements for our communities over the coming years.”

The Warm Homes Programme forms part of the council's broader approach to improving housing quality and supporting residents with the rising cost of living, while continuing to strengthen delivery and governance arrangements.

Work will continue across the district over the coming months as the programme develops into its next phase.
