Did you know? More than 100 Arun food businesses achieve top hygiene rating
More than 100 food businesses across Arun have been awarded the highest possible food hygiene rating of five since April, helping residents dine out with confidence.
Helping you choose safe and hygienic places to eat
Food hygiene ratings help people make informed choices about where they eat. Whether it's a café, takeaway, restaurant, mobile food truck or even a business operating from a home kitchen, all food businesses that serve or supply food to the public must meet food hygiene standards.
In Arun, our Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) play a vital role in helping to keep food safe. All food businesses must register with the council, and many receive a food hygiene inspection from an EHO.
How food businesses earn their rating
Following an inspection, businesses are given a food hygiene rating from zero to five, with five being the highest rating, indicating particularly good hygiene standards. During inspections, EHOs assess how food is prepared, cooked, stored and handled, as well as the cleanliness and condition of the premises and the systems in place to keep food safe.
The rating reflects the standards found at the time of inspection and is published on the Food Standards Agency website, where residents can check the hygiene rating of local food businesses before deciding where to eat or shop: https://ratings.food.gov.uk/
So next time you're choosing somewhere to eat locally, look out for the food hygiene rating. With more than 100 local businesses achieving the top five-star rating since April, Arun residents have plenty of highly rated options to choose from.
