Did you know? Today is International Day of Action for Rivers
Rivers provide the world's ecosystems with water, helping sustain a higher biodiversity per square mile than almost any other ecosystem.
All the main rivers in the Arun district have been classed as moderate or poor condition by the Environment Agency. Sewage pollution, urban and agricultural runoff, and fly tipping all put daily pressure on our streams and rifes.
For this reason, a motion was passed to encourage extra protection for rivers and streams that run through Arun at a meeting of the Environment Committee held on 30 January 2025.
The purpose of the motion is to allow Arun to explore ways we can improve river health, water quality and biodiversity.
A copy of the motion can be found here.
