Electrical Fire Safety Week - 4 December 2023
Each year, Electrical Safety First works with the Home Office to promote electrical fire safety in the home. This year, Electrical Fire Safety Week begins today.
National Electrical Safety Week (NESW) is an annual campaign that serves as a reminder of the critical importance of electrical safety in our daily lives. This event focuses on raising awareness, promoting safe practices, and encouraging a culture of caution when dealing with electricity.
Over half of all accidental house fires are caused by electricity, here are a few things to consider:
- Do not overlaod outlets
- Plug heat generating appliances directly into an outlet, not into a power strip or extension cord
- Don't put electrical cords underneath rugs or pinched behind furniture
- Charge laptops and phones only on hard surfaces, not on beds or sofas
