End of an era at old Sea Road skate park!

The old metal skate ramps at Sea Road in Littlehampton, that have served the community so well since they were installed in 2008, are being removed.

After withstanding the harsh coastal environment for many years, the ramps have corroded and are uneconomical to repair so for safety reasons need to be taken down now that they have reached the end of their lifespan.

A new modern concrete skate park was unveiled by the council in 2019, built in a different location on Sea Road due to the water mains and electricity cables under the site.

The new park was designed and built by Maverick Industries Ltd at the cost of £200K, following consultation with a local user group to make sure the new facility had the equipment on their wishlist.

It’s been incredibly popular since it was installed and features a range of features for all skating disciplines. There is now a thriving local skate community, supported locally by Board AF, which runs skating sessions at the site.

As the concrete skate park has been designed with a range of skaters in mind there are currently no plans to replace the metal ramps.

Councillor David Edwards, Chair of the Environment Committee at Arun District Council, said: “The metal ramps at Sea Road have lasted very well over the years and been very well used. Now that we have the concrete skating facility in place, we can provide a better skating experience for local skaters with an improved riding surface and a better range of obstacles.”
