Christmas will be extra special for two lucky Littlehampton shoppers who have shared cash prizes totalling £750 in the Christmas Love Local Littlehampton Prize Draw.
Millie Harman of Arundel won £500 when her loyalty card was chosen at random by Littlehampton Mayor Councillor David Chace. Millie said, “This is the best news I’ve had in some time! Next year, I’m going to head out shopping and get some new clothes without worry. I would like the chance to say a big thank you to those know me around Littlehampton town who have helped and done their best at this particularly difficult time.”
Rosemary Kearsey of Littlehampton is also celebrating after winning the 2nd cash prize of £250.
The Love Local Prize Draw is a joint campaign between Arun District Council, Littlehampton Town Council and Littlehampton Traders Partnership to encourage people to shop locally in the run up to Christmas.
Shoppers collected a Love Local stamp when they spent £5 with participating shops, restaurants, hairdressers, cafes and other businesses in Littlehampton.
When they had collected five stickers, their loyalty card was entered in the draw.
The planned monthly draw in November was rolled over into December because of Covid-19 restrictions, providing a top prize of £500 and a runner-up prize of £250.
Littlehampton Town Mayor Councillor David Chace says the Littlehampton Love Local Prize Draw has been a good way for shoppers to support Littlehampton’s many independent retailers and local businesses in the run up to Christmas.
“Encouraging residents to do their Christmas shopping locally is one of the ways we have been able to acknowledge and support the resilience of our local traders, who have had such a difficult year,’ says Councillor Chace.
Councillor Dr Walsh, Arun’s Cabinet Member for the Economy says, “The Coronavirus pandemic has had a devastating effect on local independent traders for whom Christmas is traditionally the most profitable part of the year. It is credit to the amazing spirit, generosity and tenacity of retailers that the festive spirit of Christmas is still very evident in Littlehampton.”
