Marina Gardens gets an exciting upgrade

Marina Gardens, Littlehampton gets an exciting upgradeWe're pleased to announce the completion of a series of community‑focused improvements at Marina Gardens, Littlehampton, funded through Section 106 (S106) contributions.

Section 106 lets councils make agreements with developers to provide work such as the upgrades to Marine Gardens.

The improvements enhance accessibility, support local biodiversity, and create a more welcoming space for residents and visitors.  Key improvements include:

  • two new wheelchair‑accessible picnic tables, ensuring the gardens are more inclusive for all
  • refurbishment of five historic Southampton‑style benches, preserving their character while improving comfort and usability
  • two newly planted borders, designed to complement the successful landscaping delivered through the recent West Green project
  • a handcrafted wooden planter, adding seasonal colour and visual appeal
  • a new mini‑beast hotel, encouraging wildlife and supporting environmental education for families and schools
  • five sensory totem posts, offering interactive features that enhance the sensory experience for children and adults alike

Councillor Amanda Worne, Chair of the Environment Committee at Arun District Council, said:

“These improvements show exactly how S106 funding can make a real difference to our communities. By enhancing accessibility, adding new planting, supporting local wildlife and creating inviting spaces for all ages, we're investing in a greener, more inclusive environment for residents and visitors to enjoy.”

These enhancements mark a continued investment in high‑quality public spaces across the district, improving wellbeing, encouraging outdoor activity, and supporting local biodiversity.
