New Public Spaces Protection Order for Littlehampton and Bognor Regis
On 1 April 2026, the council introduced a new Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO), to ensure people can enjoy the use of designated public spaces free from alcohol related nuisance and antisocial behaviour.
Officers have the authority to request anyone behaving antisocially to stop or leave the area, and alcohol may also be confiscated. Anyone who fails to comply with a request given by an authorised officer or police officer may be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of £100 or subject to prosecution.
Carrie Reynolds, Acting Group Head of Wellbeing and Communities, said:
“This Public Spaces Protection Order is in place to ensure that everyone who lives or visits the towns of Littlehampton and Bognor Regis can enjoy a safe and welcoming environment.
“By asking individuals to stop drinking or modify their behaviour, authorised officers can provide support and prevent situations from escalating, The council's priority is to work with people, offer guidance, and help resolve issues in a constructive way. The PSPO is an additional tool to help protect the wellbeing of our communities and maintain a safe and friendly environment that people rightly expect.”
This change is supported by a public consultation and by public place alcohol related incident reports. In addition, the council continues to work closely with the police to ensure that the PSPO is effectively implemented.
