Our Armed Forces Champion takes part in national conference
The West Sussex County Council (WSCC) Armed Forces Conference took place on Friday, 24 July 2026, bringing together statutory partners, local military units, and charities who reinforce the Armed Forces Covenant commitments across Sussex.
Our Armed Forces Champion, Cathryn French's presentation emphasised the important role champions play across Arun District Council. They strive to ensure serving personnel, veterans and their families are treated fairly, with access the support and services they need. Champions act as advocates for the Armed Forces community, raising awareness of the unique challenges people may face and helping them navigate council services.
This commitment means that members of the Armed Forces community can receive support with a wide range of issues, including housing, finances, training, employment and other essential services. By working closely with colleagues across the council, Armed Forces Champions help remove barriers and make sure support is accessible where it is needed most.
Leader of the Council, Councillor Martin Lury attended the conference and said:
It was a proud moment watching Cathryn give such an inspirational speech, explaining what Arun District Council has put in place for our veterans. The presentation was very well received. Well done everyone to all our champions and their commitment to the Armed Forces' Covenant.”
