Plans to improve popular skate park get airborne!

skateboarder Arun District Council is working in partnership with Littlehampton Town Council to upgrade the skate park on Sea Road, Littlehampton.

The revamp of the popular skate park will involve the installation of a wider variety of obstacles – all designed by actual skateboarders and suitable for both beginners and more experienced skaters.

A formal tender process was recently carried out to obtain concept designs for the skate park, using information from a user group survey carried out by Arun District Council and Littlehampton Town Council in June 2018, and Maverick Industries Ltd has been chosen to carry out the upgrade.

The company is run by skaters who specialise in the design of spray concrete skate parks and have significant experience of installing skate parks across the UK.

Skaters who use the park will be further consulted with prior to the final design being agreed to ensure they have a say on what the new park will look like.

Councillor Paul Wotherspoon, Arun District Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services, said: “We are aware of how popular this skate park is so, working with Littlehampton Town Council, we are seeking to modernise this space and keep it vibrant and challenging for all the skaters who enjoy it.”

Chair of Littlehampton Town Council’s Policy & Finance Committee, Dr James Walsh, KStJ, said: “Young people in Littlehampton have told us that having a more up to date and challenging skate park is what is needed, and we have involved them in the design of what will be a really good new facility, very near to the new swimming centre. This is another great new attraction for Littlehampton.”

It is anticipated that the new skate park will be installed in spring 2019.
